Tripadvisor Travellers Choice 2024

We are thrilled to announce that our Gin, Vodka & Rum School experience has been honoured with the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for the seventh consecutive year! This prestigious award recognises businesses that consistently earn outstanding reviews, placing them among the top 10% of listings worldwide on Tripadvisor.

About the Award

The Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award, formerly known as the Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence, has been honouring outstanding venues since 2011. To be eligible for the award, a business must maintain an overall rating of at least 4 out of 5 stars and receive a minimum number of traveller reviews each year, considering both quality and quantity.

Nelson’s has maintained its incredible 5-star rating since claiming its Tripadvisor profile in 2017 and has been awarded Travellers' Choice since 2018. The detailed and enthusiastic reviews left by guests of our Gin, Vodka & Rum School not only signify that we are providing an exceptional experience but also serve as recommendations to potential guests. We take all reviews on board and reply to each one to show our appreciation and continually improve the experience.

As a small independent business, being recognised within the top 10% of attractions globally is a huge achievement. This accolade not only validates the hard work and dedication of our team but also significantly enhances our reach and reputation. Being a Travellers' Choice winner helps us attract a broader audience and establishes us as a trusted and top-rated destination. It inspires us to continue delivering outstanding experiences to our guests.

A Message from the Master

Neil Harrison, the founder and Master Distiller of Nelson’s, couldn’t be more pleased. He shared his excitement, saying, “Winning the Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award, especially on top of recently being named Staffordshire Experience of the Year 2024, really highlights the hard work and dedication of the Nelson's team. We put a lot of heart and soul into what we do, and it’s amazing to see that effort recognised.

"We're incredibly grateful to our customers for their continued support and for taking the time to share their wonderful experiences with us. This recognition isn’t just a pat on the back for us; it’s a testament to our commitment to providing an exceptional experience for every visitor who walks through our doors. We couldn’t have done it without you, and we’re excited to keep the spirit alive and continue creating memorable moments.”

Nelson’s Gin, Vodka & Rum School

Awarded Experience of the Year at the Staffordshire Tourism & Good Food Awards 2024, Nelson’s Gin, Vodka & Rum School offers a 5-hour hands-on experience where students learn to make their own bottle of gin, vodka, or rum. With a diverse selection of over 60 botanicals, fruits, and spices, students are tasked with creating a recipe tailored to their own taste.

Throughout the experience, participants enjoy an educational and interactive talk on the science and history of distilling while sampling some of Nelson’s award-winning spirits along the way. As the class concludes, students bottle, wax seal, and label their creations, ready to take home with them.

Nelson’s Gin, Vodka & Rum School can be enjoyed as a single participant, distilling a 70cl bottle for yourself, or as a shared experience jointly distilling one 70cl bottle.

Customer Testimonials

katem610:
"Had an absolutely brilliant time doing the gin school and would thoroughly recommend. It was so interesting and entertaining, and we were so proud of our gin that we got to take home. We can’t wait to go back and have a go at rum. Plus, we brought lots of yummy treats to take home. I’m gluten free and often feel like an inconvenience when I go out, but they couldn’t have made me more welcome, and my gluten-free lunch was lovely. We will definitely be back."

"Went on the rum-making experience today and had a blast. The whole day was really informative and great fun, courtesy of David and Andrea who were great hosts, and the other members of the group. The lunch was great, and the samples of rum were plentiful and really enjoyable. I can’t wait to crack open the finished bottle. Highly recommend the day, thank you."

mr_grumpy_git:
"This was a great day and a great experience. Dave and Andrea were great hosts and made us all very welcome, explaining so much about the history and making of gin. Their own gins are great and very different, and we had more than enough to taste. Obviously, our own gin is very special. Nice lunch and, based on their recommendation, a lovely cream tea in the Saracens Head after. Have done other gin-making experiences before (which are obviously great), but what set this apart was the knowledge imparted from Dave in a great and informative way - explaining everything from the history of bathtub gin to London gin and Old Tom gin, as well as detailed tips on tasting gin - not as obvious as you would think. Really liked the approach to enjoying gin despite or with the tonic, lemonade, sparkling water … or just more gin. We are all guilty of just adding tonic without thinking about which tonic, or even how much. This was a great day and fantastic place to meet up with friends."
