Celebrating 5 Years of Nelson's Gluggle Jug Gin
June 2024 marks FIVE YEARS since the release of our iconic Spirit of Staffordshire – Nelson’s Gluggle Jug Gin. Released in 2019 as part of Craft Gin Club's June Gin of the Month, this tongue-twistingly good gin has been charming enthusiasts with its unique blend of local heritage and exceptional flavour ever since.
A Gin That Captures the Essence of Staffordshire
Distilled in the heart of Staffordshire, our Gluggle Jug Gin not only embodies the rich flavours of the British countryside but also celebrates the region's artistic heritage. The gin is presented in a stunning ceramic bottle, crafted by Wade Ceramics — a nod to Staffordshire's renowned pottery industry. This bottle is not just a container but a piece of art, inspired by the traditional fish-shaped water pitchers known as Gluggle Jugs, which have been produced in the area since the late 19th century.
A Symphony of Botanicals
Our gin features a complex array of botanicals, including juniper, green cardamom, sweet orange, grapefruit, lemon, hibiscus, lime, pink peppercorn, and star anise. These ingredients are blended to create a smooth yet lively London Dry gin, with a medley of bold, zesty flavours perfectly balanced over a juniper base. The aromatic green cardamom, combined with the sweetness and spice of pink peppercorns and hibiscus, enhances the citrus notes, leading to a refreshing and elegant finish.
Crafted with Passion and Pride
The creation of Gluggle Jug Gin was a collaborative effort with Craft Gin Club, particularly resonant as Jon Hulme, one of the club's founders, shares a personal connection with Stoke. This collaboration was further strengthened by the involvement of Sarah Willingham, a former BBC Dragon and the club's first major investor, who also hails from the area.
Neil Harrison's vision for the gin was inspired by the vibrant flavours of summer and the iconic design of the Gluggle Jug. After experimenting with various botanical blends and consulting with John, Jon, and Sarah, the final product was a gin that captured the essence of summer with an emphasis on citrus, crafted for enjoyment on long, sunny evenings.
Acclaimed and Awarded
The pinnacle of our journey came when Gluggle Jug Gin was voted the Best Gin of 2019 by 64,000 Craft Gin Club members at the Big Gin Awards, a testament to its quality and popularity among the craft gin community.
